Chapter 609 — Dogs; Exotic Animals; Dealers
ORS 609.505 Unlawfully obtaining dog or cat
A person commits the crime of unlawfully obtaining a dog or cat if the person:
Is an animal dealer; and
Obtains a companion animal or the offspring of a companion animal from a person who has not raised the companion animal or the offspring of the companion animal on the person’s own premises.
Unlawfully obtaining a dog or cat is a Class A misdemeanor.
It is an affirmative defense to a charge of violating subsections (1) and (2) of this section that an animal dealer, having received a companion animal or the offspring of a companion animal in violation of subsections (1) and (2) of this section, delivers the companion animal or the offspring of the companion animal to an animal shelter within 24 hours of acquisition.
